Abstract: Expert systems are one of the application fields of artificial intelligence. Expert systems are computer programs which simulates an authority that is an expert in a field. Especially in medicine, going from symptoms to diagnosis and from diagnosis to treatment is possible by using an algorithmic process which is provided by expert systems. In this study, applications of expert systems in medicine, historical progress, weak points and the possibility of increasing the efficiency in medicine are covered.
